If you are not that type of person, you may need to just buy a brand new table. But what kind of fun is that? You might as well try to build a coffee table or maybe something a little less complicated before you move to large furniture.
Anyway, here are some basic steps on how to build a coffee table. These are not a real step by step plan you can follow with ease and end up with a beautiful coffee table, but they will give you an idea on how much work is actually involved in creating a coffee table.
Round Oak Coffee Tables
So the first step is to find a plan, yeah I said it, you need a plan before you start taking action. This is not a ready, fire, aim task like you may want to think it is. You want to save money, and in the process, maybe learn something new. So a good plan to build a coffee table is a must.
Your second step is to find out what materials are needed to build your coffee table. It is important to figure this out since you do not want to over spend and be left with wood and other things you really do not need. The type of wood is really up to you, but it is always suggested to go with an oak or other hardwood. Also, nails, screws, and especially sand paper are need for this job. Not to mention the tools to cut the wood!
Since you have all the raw material you need for your table, it is time to prepare them. You will need to cut the wood to the specifications needed. Do not really worry about this part, if you use building instructions for a table you should be fine and will end up with a pretty good end product.
With all the materials ready to go, you are now ready to actually start putting them together. Make sure to follow the table instructions exactly so the table will come out the way you need it to. It may seem while you are putting this together that it just does not look right. My advice, just stick with it.
After completing the process of putting all the pieces together, you should see that you made a really coffee table. The only thing you have to do now is to sand it down. First, start by using a coarse sandpaper then move to a really fine paper. This will allow the sanding process not only to go faster, but using the fine paper will get everything smooth and ready for the varnish. So that is it, put a couple coats of the color varnish you choose and your coffee will be done.
That is really all there is to build a coffee table. Get the materials, stick with the table plans, cut your pieces, put them together, and finally sand and varnish to finish it off. It may seem like a lot of work, but now you know how to build a coffee table and you can maybe make a hobby out of it if you like it.
